American Bison (Bison bison)

During the days of the Wild West these impressive animals were almost hunted to extinction. The wild herds once hunted by the native americans were reduced to a few animals by white hunters armed with rifles.

This one fed in a field during a frosty October morning in the Grand Teton NP, Wyoming. The grass was almost white with frost, fall color still lingered on the trees, mist covered the foot of the Tetons as their peaks still showed under the cloud cover.
